This bright seaside painting is inspired by the charming traditional fishing boats, called kaiki, of the Greek Islands. They typically have small man-made cabins that can accommodate a single fisherman, or his catch. These cabins protect them from the sweltering sun and winds. I love the little portholes!

Iraklia island, where you can find the exact boats I painted in this artwork, has a population of about 149 people--plus more than a few sweet cats! You can take a ferry daytrip there from Naxos, and swim in the wonderful turquoise sea. It's a stunning, peaceful location with a couple of good restaurants too! My hope is that this painting brings the spirit of a remote Greek island to your home.
