“Island Retreat” captures the serene solitude of Plaka on Naxos, where I spent the day walking the beach. I visited the island for a photography and plein air trip, and completed the original painting in my Canadian studio. In this print, a simple stone house overlooks the Aegean sea. I painted a gentle path from the dwelling down to the shore, where I imagined bringing a morning coffee to the water’s edge. My desire was to create a painting that offers an escape from a hectic world, to this secluded, relaxing beach in Greece.
